Just had an interesting end to the day with Mars Black, a Macclesfield based band that has a very interesting style. The guitar and drums based trio combine plenty of electronic effects, beats, loops and echoes to create a sound that somehow seems to push the Battles envelope. Quite refreshing to encounter avan-gardists in a town, which is more synonymous with demotic ‘pub bands’ or the infamous Macc Lads — well also synonymous with some very cool artists too, Ian Curtis, need I say more?
The object of the exercise (for me) was to try out a new video camera and shoot a Mars Black rehearsal prior to some work related filming in Manchester.
